“There’s more to heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” ~ Hamlet (1.5.167-8)
I first heard this quote from Hamlet in my senior year high school English class. I don’t know why I remembered it, but it really stuck with me. If I’m honest, I used to hold it up as a lens through which to view others, at times with an almost arrogant sense of, “I know something you don’t know.” It’s easy enough to do; that’s the way it’s written. At this point in my life, I hold it much more humbly. So many philosophies I’ve held have been dashed open, like new wine in old wine skins. I’ve been Horatio many times over and in significantly life altering ways. So I’ve held onto this quote as an expression of how limited we are and how important it is to keep learning together. I hope you’ll enjoy reading through my discoveries.
